Description

Bay leaf comes from the sweet bay or true laurel tree. It has an aromatic but slightly bitter taste. It is used in the preparation of pickled fish, bobotie. For a delectable pickle fish recipe refer to Spice Mecca’s Taste of The Cape range, which contains bay leaves.

The uses of bay leaves include grinding the leaves into a spice, to flavor soups and stews, but the leaves are most commonly added in the whole form as a flavoring for certain Italian dishes and are then removed or used as a garnish.
